Type Locality and Naming

Songliao Basin east. The naming section is located in the area from Gangyao to Dakouqin 28 km southwest of the seat of Shulan County, Jilin. Named by the Regional Survey Party, Jilin Bureau of Geology, in 1980.


Lithology and Thickness

The lower part, conglomerate and pebbly sandstone with purplish red mudstone; the upper part, alternating grayish brown sandy mudstone and purple mudstone. The thickness is 250 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Unconformable contact with the underlying Late Permian Yangjiagou Fm (?).

Upper contact

It has a disconformable or unconformable contact with the overlying Eocene Bangchuigou Fm.

Depositional setting

It belongs to lakeshore-deltaic deposits, consisting predominantly of compositionally complex and poorly sorted clastic rocks intercalated with mudstone and locally with carbonaceous rocks or coal beds.
